Endodontics & Root Canals in Brea, CA
Enjoy a More Comfortable Root Canal Procedure
Dr. Lewis offers laser endodontics for more predictable results with root canal therapy. Laser technology allows us to reduce infection through a minimally-invasive technique. When performing a root canal, we can clean out the inside chambers of the tooth and restore the tooth to a healthier state relatively quickly. Many people do not realize that this is actually a fairly painless procedure — in most cases, we will perform the procedure under local anesthesia.Contact Us About a Free Consultation
What to Expect with Endodontics
Dr. Lewis will first take an x-ray to determine exactly where the infection is occurring. We may inject local anesthetic into the tooth or cheek to numb the area. Next, we will make a very small opening in the tooth and remove the infected tissue. Dr. Lewis may use a dental laser as part of this procedure. The roots will be filled with gutta-percha material and then sealed off. We may top the tooth with a crown to restore its shape and strength.
Endodontic Retreatment Procedures
If you have already undergone root canal therapy, either at our practice or with another dentist, you may need retreatment if the infection returns. The tooth may not have healed properly or some of the infected pulp was left behind. Whatever the case, Dr. Lewis can reopen the chambers of the tooth and perform endodontic retreatment to save it.
An infected tooth pulp can be extremely painful and should not be ignored. If you have any symptoms of an infection, you should set up an appointment with Dr. J. Dennis Lewis. Here are some of the signs you may need a root canal:
- Cracked tooth
- Persistent and intense tooth pain
- Deep cavities
- Tender or swollen gums
- Infection or pus forming around the tooth
